Kirkton Glen, Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland
Today’s trip was up the Kirkton Glen which is to the north of Balquhidder Kirk where Rob Roy’s grave is.
It’s an easy enough loop on forest track but we decided to go a bit higher up to Lochan an Eireannaich which is on high ground. Views beautiful on a good day, but cloud was down.
Photos include the view down from Creag na Tuirch (apparently the place where Clan Maclaren gathered) over to Loch Voil and looking directly at Glenbuckie to the South, an excitable harebell and two insects on a landing pad.
There was the strangest rock at today’s high point. It has clearly broken away from the crag above but just sits there in the middle of the mountain pass. I can bet this rock had a name in days gone by. You can see the scale as my husband is a speck. Any shepherd would be tired up here and plenty of rock hideaways for them or folk needing to lie low . The sheep still live high and seem to get into the most awkward places. They will be gathered for shearing, lambing, dipping and worming but no mean feat to gather them in.
