Moray Estate, Doune, Stirlingshire, Scotland
A rather broken down boathouse on the banks of the loch high on Moray estate land above Doune, and looking out to Severie. Cold today and very wet underfoot. This is where Stewarts shepherded and were tenant farmers for centuries. The 1st Earl of Moray was in fact Lord James Stuart (Stewart) of Doune, half brother of Mary Queen of Scots. The current laird of the Moray estates is the 21st Earl of Moray, John Douglas Stuart. The estates include these lands in Doune, some in Edinburgh and some further north in Moray itself. The estates history is below (stolen from the morayestates.co.uk website).
