Today I had a plan that I had to change as the roads were too icy. I wanted to go to Calziebohalzie on the Braes of Doune but, inspired by Ailsa Gray’s post, I diverted to Doune itself and walked the Castle. I tried to go to see the old mill building (grain mill dating from the 16th century and in the care of Historic Environment Scotland) but I got stopped by someone who said it was on private property. It is however only a hop over a stream so I will – when the water is lower – just take my wellies for a walk. I have however found a decent video on YouTube of the mill which includes photos of it when it was still functioning. Am I right someone in the group had an ancestor who worked at the mill in Doune?

The Castle always looks majestic, even without diseased cows being thrown over the ramparts (Monty Python), or doubling up as Castle Leoch (Outlander) or Winterfell (Game of Thrones).
