The other place visited today was Blaircreich or Blaircrioch. Went right to Blaircreich and had a lovely chat with the owner who was not keen on photos of the property. He was however very interested himself in the Glen’s history and knew all about the links locally with Walter Scott (Walter Scott’s dad was involved in the legal battle between the Maclarens and the Stewarts of Appin over Invernenty) and also cited the PhD we all like on the settlements of Western Perthshire

We spoke about the different spellings of Blaircrioch and Blaircreich. He told me the oldest part of the house was in fact the footing it stood on. He suggested the footings were perhaps the oldest in the Glen. The barns were built around 1810 he believed, and the house is relatively modern. He did say that one of the oldest constructions in the Glen was the wall that runs west to east nearby and down to Invernenty, and the fanks (stockpens) next to Blaircreich. It is entirely possible some of our ancestors helped construct many of the walls that still stand locally. Love walls. Have again taken screenshots from old website of Blaircreich births.https://theses.ncl.ac.uk/…/10443/570/1/stewart86.pdf
