A bit “out of area” but perhaps a sign that Scotland is riddled with reminders of its past. I walked around Loch Freuchie the other day and also over the pass to Glen Almond.
On the shores of Loch Freuchie are two villages – Easter and Wester Turrerich located on an old drovers route. They – along with other locations in Breadalbane – were cleared by command of the second Marquis of Breadalbane in the 1830s. Many of those cleared head to Canada and settled in Western Ontario and North Easthope in Ontario. I also took a photo of the Crannog on Loch Freuchie. Not sure of its history but there is a dragon involved!
We walked along Glen Almond having crossed over from Glen Quaich, where Loch Freuchie is, through a mountain pass. There is a track running the length of Glen Almond from the Crieff – Aberfeldy road all the way to Loch Tay. 17 miles long. That is for another day but very walkable.
