The following website features have been updated as of 16 Aug 2021:

Major Site Navigation Update

New Contextual Menus – Because we have so many pages on this website, the navigation menu was growing too large to fit on phone screens. Since we still have at least a hundred pages on our old site yet to migrate here, the menu is only going to keep growing. Eventually it would have become unnavigable.

I have switched to contextual menus. Every time you move from one section of the website to another, the menu bar will change to only show links to pages relevant to that section.

For example: If you’re viewing the Stewarts of Ardvorlich page, the menu will only show the descendant branches of that family, as well as the HOME page and the SEARCH page. If you want to move from there to a descendant page of the Stewarts of Glenbuckie, then you’ll have to go back to the STEWART FAMILIES page or the HOME page and navigate from there. If you want to go from there to a BLOG posting, then you’ll have to go back to the HOME page and navigate to the blog from there.

I acknowledge that this creates another step, which may feel annoying. But it eliminates the problem of the menu getting too large to be usable on phones and it would have become unusable on desktops eventually.

You can also use the full SITE DIRECTORY found in the footer at the bottom of every page.

(I’m aware that it’s possible to set up different menus for phone/desktop views. That would be too much work to maintain at this point. Maybe I’ll look into that in the future.)

Shuna’s Gallery – 67 new posts!

Thank you to our new assistant website editor, Ailsa Grey! In just one week, Ailsa has migrated 67 of Shuna’s video journal posts from Facebook to blog posts here! Now you can see all of Shuna’s amazing photography in one, searchable location: Shuna’s Gallery. This will also enable us to use Shuna’s photos on our web pages more easily.

Shuna also has about 120 videos that she’s shot for us over the past year. We’re presently uploading those to YouTube then Ailsa will be adding them to Shuna’s Gallery for inclusion with the existing posts.
