Alexander Stewart of Glassingall had died intestate and his extensive estates had reverted to the Crown. 17 different claimants (not all Stewart) put in claims for a portion of the estate based on their purported relationship to Alexander Stewart. The hearings lasted from 1849-1856, with each claimant submitting statements of their family relationship to Glassingall and many submitting family trees. The trees conflict as each is drafted with an bias in support of that claimant’s claim to the estate.
